Notification Service Configuration Interface

This topic describes the various tabs on the wizard.


The Notification Service enables communication of event-related information to appropriate users or roles. The Provide Details for Notification Service Connector section of the New Service Group wizard helps you configure a notification service.

Field Description User Action
Select Database Configuration To create a Database Configuration Select the New Database Configuration option from the drop-down list and provide the required information in the dialog box that appears.
To continue with an existing Database Configuration Select it from the drop-down list. The associated fields are automatically filled.
Advanced Options Expand the group box and provide the necessary details. Note: Setting cursor cache size to a high value would cause high memory consumption. Based on the application usage, adminstrator has to set an optimal value. This is also applicable to the Query Cache size. For example: The optimal cursor cache size can be between 50 - 100, subjective to the application usage.

Field Description
Number of Threads The number of messages that can be triggered simultaneously. The default value is five. If you increase the number of threads, the number of messages that can be triggered simultaneously will also increase, but at the cost of memory.
Default Dispatch Timeout (in seconds) Specify the timeout period (in seconds) for that dispatch logic, if the default dispatch logic is used for delivering mail. The default value is zero.
E-Mail Connector Service To specify a mail connector, click , select the required mail connector from the Choose E-mail Service dialog box, and click OK.
URL Prefix Specify the URL prefix in the URL Prefix text box, if you have configured the Notification Service Container to use the E-mail service. The URL prefix will be used to send mail. The syntax for URL Prefix is "http or https:// hostname: portnumber".
Default E-mail ID The default E-mail address. If you do not provide a sender's E-mail address while sending a notification, the system checks for the E-mail address in the participant preferences. If the E-mail address is not supplied in the participant preferences page either, the default E-mail ID that you supply in the Service Container configuration page is used.
Default Mail Content The default message to be sent along with the notification.
Generic Notification Service Container Properties
Start Task Mandatorily before Complete Select this check box to force the user to start the task mandatorily, before completing it. By default, this check box is cleared.

Field Description
Inbox View Mode

You can determine how you want to check for new messages.

  • If you want to to check for new messages (in the Inbox) , click Refresh. This option is selected by default.
  • To be alerted automatically whenever a new message is received, click Push, select the event processor from the Choose Target window, and click OK.
Inbox Worklist Preferences

You can determine what worklists to be shown in the left tab of inbox. You can also determine weather you can automatically claim on opening a new task.

  • Automatically Claim / Revoke Claim in Inbox - Select this check box to enable the user to Claim the task as soon as it is opened. If the task is opened and closed without any action, it will revert to the New state automatically. By default, this check box is selected.
  • Show Empty Work Lists - Select this check box to display the work lists that do not contain any tasks. By default, this check box is selected.
  • Show Notifications - Select this check box to display the Notifications option in My Inbox. By default, this check box is selected.
  • Show Memo As Tooltip - Enables the feature of showing the memo associated to a task as tooltip. Select the required task in the Inbox, and hover the mouse on the Activity column to view the memo. Tooltip contains the following: 'Name of the user who added the memo', 'Time when the memo is added', and the 'Memo content'. You can also customize this option from Inbox Preferences. By default, this check box is cleared. Selecting this check box, will provide this feature for all the users.
    Note: In 'Refresh' mode, the tooltip information that is associated to the selected task is cached. The cache is updated only when the Inbox is refreshed.
Case Inbox Preferences

You can determine which type of case models must be displayed in Case(s) tab of My Inbox

  • Hide Sub-Case Models in Case Inbox - Select this check box to hide the sub-case models in the Case tab of My Inbox. By default, this check box is cleared and all the sub-case models belonging to a case are displayed in the Inbox.
Task Toolbar Preferences

Do the following to determine the task operations that can be shown in the task tool bar displayed in:

  • the Inbox Grid - Select this option to show the relevant tool bar button on the tool bar displayed above My Inbox Grid. This option also determines whether to show or hide this option as a context menu, when you click any row in My Inbox grid.
  • the Task View - Select this option to show the respective tool bar button of the tool bar displayed in the task view.
    Using this configuration, you can determine which of the following buttons can be shown on the tool bar of My Inbox grid and Task View.
  • Claim
  • Assign
  • Revoke
  • Start
  • Stop
  • Pause
  • Resume
  • Complete
  • Suspend
  • Skip
  • Delegate
  • Forward
  • Modify System Attributes
  • Add Memo
  • Add Attachments
  • Add Reminder
  • Add Tags

    Default Options
    By default, all the above buttons except Complete is shown in the My Inbox grid View.
    By default, all the above buttons are shown in Task View. Currently, the 'Add Tags' button is not available in the tool bar of the task view. So, you cannot configure this button to be shown in Task view.

Caution

  • Ensure that the Notification Service Container is restarted when its properties are modified. The new settings will be applicable when users reopen 'My Inbox'.
  • Some configurations may not enable users to work on the tasks either from My Inbox Grid or from Task view. Administrator should take care to avoid such configurations.
  • When more than one service of Notification is created in a service group, administrator should take care to replicate the same configuration in all the services.
